Are Haier air conditioners the right choice?
In short strong value, with a 5 year manufacturer’s warranty on systems under 25kW, built-in Wi-Fi and self-cleaning, and local service through the Fisher & Paykel network.
Haier is one of the largest appliance manufacturers in the world, operating in more than 160 countries with 10 research and development centres (haierhome.com.au).
In Australia it has a stronger position than many people realise, for a reason that is not obvious from the badge: Haier acquired Fisher & Paykel Appliances in 2012. Haier Smart Home’s brands include Fisher & Paykel and GE Appliances. That gives the Haier air conditioning business an established Australian sales and service network rather than a newly built one, which matters when you need a part in year seven.
The range
Haier covers all three residential categories:
- Single room: wall-mounted split systems in the 300, 500 and 600 Series and the Pinnacle range, from 2.5kW up to 9.0kW
- Multi room: several indoor units on one outdoor unit
- Whole of home: ducted systems
Built-in Wi-Fi and self-cleaning feature across the wall-mounted range, and UV Protect on the 600 Series and Pinnacle.
Smart control
Haier systems use the SmartHQ app for control from anywhere. Haier promotes itself as the number one global brand for Healthy Self-Clean and AI air conditioners, citing Euromonitor International data measured by retail sales volume in 2025 (haierhome.com.au).
That claim is properly sourced and methodologically specific, which is more than most brand claims manage. Note what it measures: global sales volume in a defined category, not Australian performance or reliability.
Warranty
Haier offers a 5 year manufacturer’s warranty on air conditioning products with system cooling capacity under 25kW. Note that this is longer than the standard two-year parts and labour warranty on Haier’s other appliances, so do not assume the two are the same.
As always, confirm on your quote whether the warranty covers parts and labour or parts only.
What the Government’s energy register shows
The Australian Government’s Energy Rating register lists 81 current Haier registrations for sale in Australia, as at . Manufacturers have to register every air conditioner sold here with the energy efficiency regulator, along with its tested efficiency.
- Bedroom size (2.0 to 3.0kW wall split, reverse cycle): the most efficient of 6 rates 7 stars for cooling and 3.5 for heating in the average climate zone
- Living area size (6.0 to 8.0kW wall split, reverse cycle): the most efficient of 10 rates 4.5 stars for cooling and 3 for heating
The stars come from the manufacturer’s own tests, submitted to the regulator. They are a fair guide to running cost, not to reliability, and a half-star difference between brands is not worth choosing on. A registration stays listed until it expires, so not every one is still on sale. Check the label for the exact model you are quoted, or look it up on the Energy Rating calculator.

A good fit if:
- You want strong value with a 5 year warranty behind it
- You want built-in Wi-Fi and self-cleaning without paying premium-brand prices

Look elsewhere if:
- Resale perception matters to you

Before you buy
- Get the model number. The 300 and 600 Series are different propositions at different prices
- Check the Zoned Energy Rating Label rating for your climate zone
- Confirm the warranty term and whether it covers labour
- Ask whether there is a service agent in your area
- Compare your quotes for the same capacity
A reminder about installation only a licensed technician can install an air conditioning system. Anyone installing or servicing a refrigerated air conditioner needs a Refrigerant Handling Licence from the Australian Refrigeration Council. Handling refrigerant without one is an offence. You can check any installer’s licence on the national register at lookforthetick.com.au. Our guide to choosing a reliable installer covers what else to check.
